Porthcawl, Bridgend, CF36 5BY

This is called Sandy Bay because of the stretch of near-rock-free golden sand which comes with lifeguard cover in the summer months (look for the flag first: no flag, no lifeguard) as well as donkey rides and the chance to trampoline or jump on a bouncy castle (both charged). The backdrop is a large fairground, sea front shops and cafes and an entertainment complex (you’ll find the toilets and baby change in here) with bowling when you’ve had enough of the sun and the water. There’s a bus direct from Bridgend centre.
