Check out all the wonderful wooded areas you can explore below and then head off with a basket each to collect conkers and leaves. Challenge kids to find as many leaves of different shapes and sizes as they can and then, when you get home, spread out old newspapers on the floor, get them to lay out their collections and see if they can make a few letter posters.

L is for love (fill a blank page with heart-shaped leaves), F is for face (any eyes, nose and mouth-shaped ones in there?), T is for tank (fill it with fish-shaped autumn colours), P is for peacock (a fan of feather-shaped leaves around a drawn body), and R is for Rocket (a smooth oval for the rocket, and some oak leaves for the flames coming out behind!) You get the idea. Serve up with hot chocolate and enjoy!

Tip: check out these forests for perfect leaf-picking material
